GOOD FOR DUMMIES LIKE ME...
NOTE: Today's word is being shared just to inform you of what it means whenever you hear or read about the term. (Someone asked, so I thought I would give the answer here.) It is NOT intended to assist you in making any changes to this area of your computer; absolutely not! Leave this task to the certified computer technicians.
BIOS (basic input / output system)
is basically the "software" the computer uses for it's most basic operations (accessing memory, disks, processors, etc.). This "software" is built into the computer's motherboard, so don't worry about losing it if your hard drive crashes.
Note that these are NOT Windows settings, these are the "core" settings for your computer, but know that this is not something that an average computer user should ever mess with.
Most BIOS setups allow you to configure hard drive parameters, set the time, type of floppy disk drives, memory timing, and so on. It's an area that's best left alone unless you are an experienced computer expert (and if you were you would already know this). Many computers have been rendered useless from tampering with these settings, but now at least you know what it is.
