| LAYER BY LAYER |

Down a "pleasant slice of road", I kept an easy pace
When an unexpected "slice of past" smacked me in the face
Like a whirlwind anger rose; a very unwelcome guest
Bringing back a circumstance I thought I'd laid to rest
God in heaven, my heart cried out, what is happening here?
Am I still filled with unforgiveness and I grappled with that fear
It felt like all the progress I'd made, had rapidly come undone
How could just a casual comment, return me to square one?
It all seemed fresh; the pain, the hurt and the tears began to fall
I thought that I had worked through this...guess I haven't after all
A moment like this is all that's needed, for the enemy to shoot his dart
To throw some guilt, to plant a seed of doubt inside my heart
But my faithful God, opened a door and a friend was standing there
Who knew my pain and heard my plea when I said I needed prayer
She didn't judge, she only listened, but she listened with her heart
And offered up these words of truth, for that's where freedom starts
"It's a process and sometimes painful, as layers are being peeled,
But with every layer that God removes, more truth can be revealed.
God exposes hidden layers for a purpose and a goal,
To help you grow in spiritual strength and bring healing to your soul."
"It takes time, don't get discouraged, God knows that you are trying,
Don't even give a fleeting thought to the enemy and his lying.
Forgiveness must be a daily decision; it's not a one-time deal,
And when your heart can "speak" forgiveness, you'll begin to heal."
"You can trust God through this process, He loves you very much,
And with every layer you need removed, you'll feel His tender touch.
Layer by layer, you're being refined, don't give up before you're through,
Let God finish the work He started and complete His work in you."

"He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding."
