Samson's life with Delilah:
Samson's Problems:
- Blessed by God from birth, but looked for the GOOD LIFE
- Played around with the WORLD
- REBELLIOUS
- Became a womanizer
- Able to tear a lion in two yet full of habits (passions and lusts) which he could not
break!
- Conquered the Philistines but could not conquer his FLESH.
Delilah's Problems:
- Charming and alluring.
- Her story brings about a graphic portion of scripture, which accurately symbolizes
today's world.
- A Philistine prostitute
- Used her so-called charm to lure opposite sex (specifically SAMSON)
- Her flesh brought a spiritual man to physical destruction (he gets his eyes gouged
out, got bound in fetters, and was reduced to nothing)
- "One of the lowest, meanest women of the Bible" (Herbert Lockler)
Special Facts:
- Although Samson was a Champion of Israel, he became a traitor to himself.
- Delilah betrayed Samson for 1100 pieces of silver. (Beware of the wiles of wicked
and scheming women.) Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus with 30 pieces of silver.
- Samson chose a woman with no morals.
- Delilah had no morals.
Different Standards - Different Processes:
- Samson eventually repented to the Almighty God. His hair began growing back and God returned him his strength. When the final festival arrived of about 3000 people to honor their god Dagon, God gave Samson the ability to bring down the entire town. (Read Judges 16:20-31)
- Nothing in Scripture reveals that Delilah chose to repent of her deeds. When her evil task was over, she disappeared in the ruins with the rest to receive her just reward.
- Samson worshipped the Mighty Jehovah
- Delilah's culture worshipped the idolatrous god, Dagon.
- Samson only had himself to blame. However, when Samson cried out to the Lord in desperation his hair grew back and God restored his grace to him. (Redemption is always available.)
- Delilah was accountable for her deeds to the end.
