Read the accounts of Esther in the following Old Testament book:
Esther 2:5 - Esther 10
Her Ministry: A star of hope to her people, the Israelites.
Her Home Life: Esther was a Hebrew daughter of Abihail from the tribe of Benjamin, who was raised in the Jewish faith. When her parents died she went to live in a Persian palace, after becoming foster daughter to her uncle Mordecai, who was her father's nephew and her mother's brother. Mordecai raised her and treated her as his own daughter.
Her Status: Became Queen of Persia -- A woman of nobility and character. An Old Testament book was written in her honor because she delivered the nation Israel, while she, a Hebrew, was married to a Persian King Ahasuerus (or Xerxes).
Her Character: Gracious Obedient -- always sought her cousin Mordecai's advice, even when she as Queen. Inspiring/remembered especially for her godly nobleness; Esther was self-controlled, self-sacrificing, courageous, assertive, and vastly patriotic.
Her Physical Attributes: An extremely beautiful young virgin woman, described as the "Most attractive woman of the Old Testament" (Herbert Lockler).
Her Ultimate Purpose: The Old Testament Book of Esther is a story of romance, and deliverance. The name "God" is never mentioned in the book, but in reading Esther, one can see that it shows us how just as God is hidden throughout the chapters of this book, He is also hidden and revealed in the chapters of our individual lives as well. The Book of Esther shows how Queen Esther saved not only her life, but also the lives of her entire race.
Meaning of her Name: Esther's original name - Hadassah. The word Esther means Aster or Star.
