Acts 18:1-4 KJV |
After these things (after Paul, the Apostle had preached on Mars Hill to the great philosophers of that day) Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth. (This was the rebuilt Corinth in about 53 AD. The old Corinth had burnt down). And found a certain Jew named AQUILA, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife, PRISCILLA, because that Claudius had commanded ALL Jews to depart from Rome, and came unto them. And because he (Paul) was of the same craft, he abode with them and wrought - for by their occupation they were tentmakers.(Jewish fathers taught their sons a trade; otherwise, they figured they would grow up as thieves)

Acts 18:18-20 KJV |
And Paul tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave into Syria leaving PRISCILLA and AQUILA having shorn his head in Cenchrea for he had a vow. And he came to Ephesus, and left them there but he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. When they desired him to tarry longer time with them he consented them not. (Then Paul sailed on to Ephesus and to Caesarea, to the church down in Antioch.)

Acts 18:24-26 KJV |
And a certain Jew named Apollo born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the scriptures came to Ephesus. (Apollo was historically knowledgeable in the Word, for he had learned a great deal from John the Baptist. But he didn't understand about the death and resurrection of Christ.) This man was instructed in the way of the Lord - being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord KNOWING ONLY the baptism of John. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when AQUILA and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him THE WAY OF GOD MORE PERFECTLY.
