Ruth
Continued from Page 2

Lessons to be learned from Ruth (continued):

  1. After Ruth did as she was told, Boaz said something to her that none of like to hear -

    "Wait"

"Then she said, ’Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day."
    Ruth 3:18

It was now out of her hands.

Boaz took the situation from Ruth and put it onto himself. Ruth had to let go and trust.

How often do we refuse to "let go and let God"? It’s hard to back away because we want to keep "helping" the situation not to mention being in control.

The End Results:

Ruth: God blessed Ruth with a wonderful husband and a child, Obed (meaning Servant). She was able to keep her promise to Naomi and they remained together. Ruth was King David’s great-grandmother. She was one of five women to be listed in the genealogy of Christ. She was shown firsthand the Lord’s redemption.

***

Naomi: She had cried to the women of Bethlehem,

"Do not call me Naomi; (Naomi means 'my delight') call me Mara, (bitter) for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me I went out full, and the Lord has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?"
Ruth 1:20-21

***

Boaz: He was a type of Christ, he redeemed Ruth and in doing so, Naomi as well. He was an older man and not married. This may have been because he was the son of the harlot, Rahab. By this time in his life he had possibly given up the idea of marriage. But God had other plans for him. He was blessed with a young, virtuous wife and a child to carry on his name. He’s listed in the genealogy of Christ. He was King David’s great-grandfather.

When looking at the first part of this book all you see is hardship. Elimelech & Naomi left their home because of famine. They had two sons, both of whom were not healthy (Mahlon means "sickly" and Chilion means "wasting away"). When Naomi lost her husband and both of her sons she was destitute, living in a foreign country. She had no hope, but she did have Ruth. Ruth made a vow to Naomi and in doing so made a confession of faith in the Lord. The Lord worked through complete tragedy and turned it unto blessings, blessings, blessings.
